Abstract

This study aims to determine the efforts of PAI teachers in empowering underachiever students at SMP Negeri 6 Kisaran, focusing on the characteristics of underachievers, causative factors, and efforts of PAI teachers in empowering underachiever students. The method used is qualitative with a case study approach. The results of the study show that underachiever students initially have good learning abilities but their achievement decreases due to lack of motivation. The causative factors consist of internal (physical and spiritual) and external (family and school environment) factors, with lack of parental attention and support as the main cause. PAI teachers' efforts include guidance, motivation, and cooperation with BK teachers and homeroom teachers, as well as involving parents to pay attention to their children's learning at home, so that underachiever students are expected to improve their achievements. This research is expected to encourage attention from various parties, not only focusing on BK teachers and homeroom teachers, but covering all aspects related to students' concerns.
