Abstract

Parents who have children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) face complex parenting challenges and are at high risk of experiencing anxiety. Parenting self-efficacy is believed to play an important role in helping parents manage stress and anxiety. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between self-efficacy and anxiety in parents of children with ASD through a literature review of three research journals. The method used is a literature review with an analytical descriptive approach. The three journals analyzed consisted of two correlational quantitative studies and one phenomenological qualitative study. The results of the analysis showed that there was a negative relationship between the self-efficacy of parenting and anxiety, where the higher the self-efficacy of parents, the lower the level of anxiety felt. Factors such as resilience, social support, and perception of parenting were also found to affect the psychological condition of parents. This study emphasizes the importance of psychosocial interventions that support increasing self-efficacy to maintain the mental well-being of parents of children with autism.
