Abstract
The rapid development of digital technology requires higher education institutions to adopt learning approaches that strengthen students’ autonomy. Self-Directed Learning (SDL) is a crucial competence for lifelong learning; however, many students still lack adequate readiness to learn independently. Andragogical principles and the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) are considered to have significant potential in supporting the development of SDL, yet empirical studies integrating these two approaches remain limited. This study aims to analyze the effects of andragogical principles and AI utilization on the Self-Directed Learning of students in the Nonformal Education Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas Singaperbangsa Karawang. A quantitative approach with an explanatory survey design was employed. The sample consisted of 161 students selected using proportionate stratified random sampling. Research instruments included indicators of andragogical principles, AI utilization in learning, and the Self-Rating Scale of Self-Directed Learning (SRSSDL). Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression using JASP 0.95.4.0 aplication. The results indicate that andragogical principles and AI utilization simultaneously have a positive and significant effect on Self-Directed Learning (p < 0.001). Partially, andragogical principles show a more dominant influence than AI utilization, although both variables contribute significantly. These findings confirm that integrating andragogical approaches as a pedagogical foundation with AI-based adaptive learning technologies can effectively enhance students’ self-directed learning and foster a sustainable learning ecosystem in higher education. However, the relatively limited R² value in this study indicates that andragogical principles and the use of AI are important factors, but not the only determinants in shaping students’ Self-Directed Learning. Other factors that may also influence it include self-efficacy, learning motivation, digital literacy, and aspects of the learning environment.

Perkembangan teknologi digital menuntut pendidikan tinggi untuk mengembangkan pembelajaran yang berorientasi pada kemandirian mahasiswa. Self-Directed Learning (SDL) merupakan kompetensi penting dalam pembelajaran sepanjang hayat, namun kenyataannya tidak semua mahasiswa memiliki kesiapan belajar mandiri yang memadai. Prinsip andragogi dan pemanfaatan Artificial Intelligence (AI) dipandang memiliki potensi besar dalam mendukung penguatan SDL, meskipun penelitian yang mengintegrasikan kedua pendekatan tersebut masih terbatas. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh prinsip andragogi dan pemanfaatan AI terhadap Self-Directed Learning mahasiswa Program Studi Pendidikan Masyarakat FKIP Universitas Singaperbangsa Karawang. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan metode survei eksplanatori. Sampel penelitian berjumlah 161 mahasiswa yang ditentukan melalui teknik Proportionate Stratified Random Sampling. Instrumen penelitian meliputi indikator prinsip andragogi, pemanfaatan AI dalam pembelajaran, serta pengukuran SDL menggunakan Self-Rating Scale of Self-Directed Learning (SRSSDL). Data dianalisis menggunakan regresi linear berganda menggunakan aplikasi JASP 0.95.4.0. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa prinsip andragogi dan pemanfaatan AI secara simultan berpengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap Self-Directed Learning (p < 0,001). Secara parsial, prinsip andragogi memiliki pengaruh yang lebih dominan dibandingkan pemanfaatan AI, meskipun keduanya sama-sama memberikan kontribusi signifikan. Temuan ini menegaskan bahwa integrasi pendekatan andragogi sebagai landasan pedagogis dengan dukungan teknologi AI sebagai alat pembelajaran adaptif mampu memperkuat kemandirian belajar mahasiswa serta menciptakan ekosistem pembelajaran yang efektif dan berkelanjutan di pendidikan tinggi. Namun demikian, nilai R² yang relatif terbatas dalam penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa prinsip andragogi dan pemanfaatan AI merupakan dua faktor penting namun bukan satu-satunya determinan dalam membentuk Self-Directed Learning mahasiswa faktor lain yang mungkin mempengaruhi lain seperti self-efficacy, motivasi belajar, literasi digital, maupun faktor lingkungan belajar.
